destination : dumaguete/siquijor

this post is three months late.

On the last week of June, I went to a Dumaguete/Siquijor Trip with some good friends. This trip marked a lot of my firsts.. First plane ride, first trip to a non-Luzon destination, and first dolphin watching activity. That said, i was sure that me and my pare(s) are in for a heck of a ride. :)

DAY 1

We left Manila on the 24th of June.. The plane took off from NAIA Terminal 2 at 2.10pm. Upon getting to the airport in Dumaguete, we were immediately met by our friend-slash-host-slash-tour guide (a former trainer who is now a very close friend of ours) and after a quick stop in the city itself to buy some things we forgot to pack along, we were whisked to the city port to get a ride to the island of Siquijor..

We were picked up from the Siquijor pier and brought to Fr. Duran's resthouse (where we stayed for the night). The drive alone from the pier to the resthouse was breath-taking. The air smelled so fresh that you can't help but be reminded that you are no longer in the busy streets of manila. We had a sumptuous dinner at the resthouse and after hitting the videoke and downing some alcohol, we headed to bed.

DAY 2

We woke up early the following morning. Had breakfast at the resthouse and prepared ourselves for the long day ahead.

First stop: St. Isidore Labradore Parish Church and Convent in Lazi. One of the oldest church in the country. I am quite amazed that they have kept the wooden floor of the church. Also, it has been years since i've been to a church with a pulpit (and this one has two!).  We then headed to Cambugahay Falls. We had to go all the way down to see it and going back up to the main road reminded me of how unfit I have become. I was literally out of breath by the time i got back to the main road. Finally, we took a splash in the waters of Siquijor in Princesa Bulak-na Beach Resort. We hit the infinity pool and then we went to Fr. Duran's convent to have lunch.

After lunch, we bid Siquijor goodbye went back to Dumaguete where we had dinner at Mamia's and hit the bars: Blue Monkey and Hayahay.

DAY 3

We had to get up real early (around 4am) this day because we were headed to do some boat riding! We first went to TaƱon Strait to go dolphin-watching, then we headed to Manjuyod White Sand Bar where a -kilometer stretch of white sand appears in the middle of the water during lowtide. We had to wait the whole day on our boat (at times swimming around the boat) for the water level to go down, though. (we got some really bad sundburn because of this, 3 months after the trip and i've still got some faint tan lines on my back.) We would've loved to stay at the sand bar a little bit longer but the appearance of dark clouds made our boatmen decide to go back to shore for our safety.

We went back to Dumaguete City. By the way, our clothes were  still wet when we rode the bus to Dumaguete. I feel so bad for the passenger who had to sit beside me.. We cleaned ourselves up and then had dinner at Kamalig. To cap off the night, we toured the city on motorbikes and stopped to see the bell tower and have a walk down rizal boulevard.

DAY 4

We took a plane ride home to manila early in the morning of the next day. We had no more time to go anywhere else so we just opted to buy our pasalubongs at the airport. Sylvannas are great pasalubongs from Dumaguete. :) Unfortunately, I was unable to get myself a Dumaguete/Siquijor shirt. Well, this just means I have to go back there to get one. :D
